From Recall to Rigor

Using Bloom’s Questioning to Elevate Language and Content

Course Summary

From Recall to Rigor: Using Bloom’s Taxonomy to Elevate Language and Learning. Presented by SPG Learning at the 2025 Arizona OELAS conference to rave reviews, this workshop is a practical, classroom-focused professional development workshop that shows teachers exactly how to move students from simple recall to deep, rigorous thinking—while intentionally supporting multilingual learners at every step. Educators learn how each level of Bloom’s Taxonomy aligns to a specific step of a 5-step lesson, and how scaffolds evolve as students climb both the cognitive and language ladder. After building this foundation, participants step into an immersive demonstration lesson where they become the language learners. The facilitator teaches a short lesson entirely through the 5-step model, using targeted Bloom’s-aligned questions and scaffolds so teachers can feel firsthand how language comprehension develops. Teachers leave not just knowing the strategies—but experiencing them—equipped with question stems, scaffold templates, and ready-to-use tools to transform classroom instruction the very next day.
